Cafe Maiasmokk

The oldest café in Estonia, Maiasmokk or The Sweet Tooth, was born in 1864 along with locomotives, photography and a triumph of countless other inventions. In 150 years countries, fashion and technology have changed, but the unique Art Deco atmosphere of the café remains just as inviting. This is also the best place in town to buy some local marzipan. The fine art of marzipan making has been a local tradition since the middle ages and in Maiasmokk a collection of original molds that date back mora than a century is still used. The main ingredients of this sweet delight are almond flour and sugar and every figure is carefully painted by hand. The legend sais that the original recipe was invented by a local pharmacist’s apprentice Mart.
